So how many homes does Mitt Romney own?

By Misty - Posted on 16 March 2012

The rich-guy image continues to hamper Romney, to the point that Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly asked him about it this week. His answer: "Guess what? I made a lot of money."

Romney's personal real estate includes six homes: one in La Jolla, two in the Boston area, a ski lodge in Utah and two lakeside residences in New Hampshire.

When Romney's name then came up in the 2008 McCain campaign's private veep discussion -- they couldn't go to the country with a Republican ticket that owned 14 houses between the two of them," the source said. "That knocked Romney off the list right there."

It's interesting to note how often he misses the mark by just a fraction. "Guess what, I made a lot of money" (assuming that is the literal quote) is not THAT far from "I've been very fortunate; I have been blessed with some wonderful opportunities and want to help create such opportunities for others" -- or some such, which I think would play a lot better than this board room/I got it-you come get it banter he lapses into. He is who he is and is pretty bad at posing as something else; there is something to admire in that on some level.

The Roosevelts and Kennedys had comparable wealth with Romney, but infinitely more empathy and compassion... and as far as I know, never strapped the family dog to the roof of the car.

Joe Kennedy has a well-documented history of being downright mercenary when it came to getting his sons elected to high positions, and not in any compassionate way whatsoever.

I don't think that the vast majority of Americans, who are struggling to make it in this economy, where the wealth is being systematically redistributed to the top 1% (Romneys), can relate to these people at all. Romney is certainly not going to worry about the very poor, because he said that "we have a safety net there”. If the safety net needs a repair, “I’ll fix it”. As a business man he should know, it's the same as corporate welfare subsidies... lavishing tax breaks on billionaires.  How else is a rich Republican going to get the poor and the rich to vote for him? Romney knows exactly what he is doing. Look. This is simple. Romney wants to be Mr. President, and live at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

The irony is that the Ryan budget-which Romney supports-will get rid of that very safety net he refers to. Medicare will become a voucher system requiring seniors to pay much more out of pocket. And when he says "Planned Parenthood...we'll get rid of that" he is taking away a safety net which offers cancer screening to low income women throughout the country. Why the media doesn't press him on this I can't figure out. But, hey, at least Romney will take care of those top earners with even more tax breaks for them.
