What Rush Couldn't Do and Can't Do.

By John Martin - Posted on 22 April 2008

For all of his millions of listeners, and for the weeks and weeks spent on the air encouraging Republicans to switch sides and vote for Hillary in the primaries, Rush Limbaugh still couldn't turn the Republican tide in Hillary's favor. The Politico's Jeanne Cummings pointed out the other day, 62 percent of party switchers in Pennsylvania were coming out for Barack. Yesterday's exit polls confirmed this-- Obama got more support from former Republicans than Hillary did.

I tried listening to Rush yesterday. While millions of Pennsylvanians were out heading to the polls, there he was his entire show, still laughing about how he thought he was sabotaging the election. Rush doesn't appear to be breaking any laws, and can do whatever he wants, but it's pretty hard to listen to him and still think that he has the best interests of the U.S. in mind. A person who spends hours each day laughing about interfering with, or even just influencing, the democratic process has no respect for what we stand for. I really don't know why it's funny.

I blogged about this subject earlier today, having listened to him a couple days ago.  You may want to check that out.  He said some things that pointed to his clear discouragement about the contest.

I think the main reason Rush Limbaugh is acting out has to do with ratings, money and ego.   It's pretty sad.  He has the personality of the prototypical drug addict.  He is hooked on drama and, well ... chaos and power.  He is plagued by negativity and expresses it through his show.  He also claims to know how successful "Operations Chaos" is or has been.  And that can't even be measured.  Nor did he come up with the concept behind OC.

Also, right now he and many other republicans are (understandably) very frustrated by their candidate and by extension, their party.  Many are jealous that the dems have two candidates that they are absolutely excited about; one of whom has a great chance of winning not just the nom, but the presidency as well as a likely permanent place carved out in US and global political history. They failed to get their much-dreamed of Reagan.  And they're watching the dems usher in a JFK figure.  OUCH!

So the whole insipid and immature "operation" some of them are engaging in is a sad, moribund attempt to distract themselves from their own party woes as they are forced to sink into the depressing realization that at least 4 years of ideologies that run counter to theirs, are about to be embraced by the nation.

The good news for dems is that their current angst is just temporary.  They just have to keep it together for a few months.

Finally, as far as OC goes, there is a real danger that goes with acting wrecklessly with a dem voting system (addicts love danger, don't they?). If Senator Clinton actually wins the nom and then the GE,  Rush and his kool-aid recipients will earn the status of true traitors to their conservative values and the republican party.

Good news for Clinton Supporters: Post-Bosnia, Hillary now has up to a 2.5% chance of winning the dem nomination if she keeps her mouth shut until December.

I think Rush's operation is an insult to the American Demoncratic System which he claims to cherish. Honestly, this is true betrayal of American values. I'm glad it did not work, although are we to assume over 20% of Reb. who switched did go for Hillary? While not significant, I'm sure that would have inflated last night's numbers. Shame on Rush once again.

Check out Hillary's new email:

Hillary Clinton's campaign is on track to raise $10 million online in the 24 hours since she was declared the winner of the Pennsylvania primary last night.

"Senator Clinton's game-changing victory last night has turned the tide and resulted in an historic outpouring of grassroots support," said Campaign Chairman Terry McAuliffe. "Just like Hillary, our supporters have met every challenge and come through each time. Thanks to them, we will have the resources needed to compete and win as we move ahead to the next contests."

In addition, the campaign has received support from over 60,000 donors through noon today, of whom approximately 50,000 are new donors.

Surely the Rush-heads aren't actually donating to Hillary?

Actually, they are.  I took a deep breath and listened to about 10 minutes of Rush today during a break at jury duty.  He was gleefully expounding on last nights result of "Operation Chaos" with himself as the commander-in-chief.  But he was chastizing some of his "troops" for acting without orders.  He had received many e-mails telling him that they had called and donated, assuming Rush would be impressed.  He wasn't.  He told them that OC had to continue, but not to the extent of donations.

It will be hillarious if this all blows up in his face!

yikes. That's just crazy.
