House GOP considers privatizing Medicare

WASHINGTON – Months after they hammered Democrats for cutting Medicare, House Republicans are debating whether to relaunch their quest to privatize the health program for seniors. House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wis., is testing support for his idea to replace Medicare with a fixed payment to buy a private medical plan from a menu of coverage options.

Party leaders will determine if the so-called voucher plan will be part of the budget Republicans put forward in the spring.

"No decisions have been made on the details of our House GOP budget." Michael Steel, a spokesman for Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said Thursday. "There are a lot of ideas out there, and we're going to listen to our members and the American people."

Ah, Paul Ryan and his darn coupons. Oh, that sucking sound you hear... That's your retirement security being sucked out of your future.

Stop this nonsense. Boehner where are the jobs?

I'm more fascinated that Boehner has a spokesman named Michael Steel. (:

The free market handles the big banks and wallstreet so well, what could go wrong?

Double post
It will be an easy issue to campaign on in 2012.

"The Republicans want to completely destroy Medicare. Do you want them in power?"

The Republicans want to completely destroy Medicare. Do you want them in power?

I would add:  The Republicans want to completely destroy Medicare and Social Security. Do you want them in power?  A lot of those Tea Party demonstrators had white hair.  I wonder how they are feeling about their newly elected representatives now?

A lot of those Tea Party demonstrators had white hair.  I wonder how they are feeling about their newly elected representatives now?

I've long been under the impression that a lot of Tea Partiers don't reason and think -- they just follow blindly.

We will see buyer's remorse, I'm sure of it. You should see the plan Rand Paul has-even his fellow Republicans are running away as fast as they can. Totally destroy SS, get rid of the entire Dept. of Education, gut center for disease control, etc. So much for jobs...why isn't anyone asking how many jobs will be lost with all these cuts they are proposing?

I read somewhere that being employed by a local, state or federal government is not really a 'job' -- the only real jobs are created by the private sector.

Somehow I don't think the private sector is going to be able to absorb all the lost non-jobs when funding is cut.

I was discussing with a friend shortly after the midterms that all those upset and angry tea partiers at the summer townhalls are soon going to find out that the R are the ones who want to get their hands on their SS and Medicare.

Please. please let the House of representatives and its GOP majority pass legislation privatizing social security and medicare.

I know that won't happen (cooler heads in the GOP will balk at such suicide) but I can dream, can't I?

Since it would die in the Senate or face veto, I guess that would be fun to watch the aftermath of. I would worry if it could actually become law, but since it can't, let's watch the GOP try to defend that one!
The Tea Party has it right. We defitinitely need LESS regulation to improve the wonderfully perfect non-greed ruled free market. Let's get these guys in on medicare too!
