McCain Advisor: GOP Too Focused on the "Cocaine of Palin" to Lead

By Kelly Thomas - Posted on 08 September 2010

Wow-looks like some of the frustration within the GOP is being exposed. Link from TPM.

On MSNBC yesterday, former McCain campaign economic adviser Doug Holtz-Eakin faced a tough question from Dylan Ratigan. For all the Democrats flaws, Ratigan mused, isn't being ruled by alcoholics better than being ruled by alcoholic coke-heads?

No joke.

"Are we setting ourselves up to quit drinking by beginning to snort cocaine in November in addition to drinking?" Ratigan asked Holtz-Eakin.

In a telling answer, Holtz-Eakin confessed that the Republican party has been too obsessed with Sarah Palin, and Palin-like personalities, and has thus not had enough time to prepare its leaders to govern.

"Let's get away from the politics of personalities," Holtz-Eakin admonished. "Let's not talk about a Sarah Palin all the time, and let's have, again, a debate about ideas..... Unfortunately, what interrupted that is the Democrats ruled so poorly that the Republicans are now back in play quickly and they're now trying to do that faster than may be possible."

Did you see Meagan McCain on the Rachel Maddow Show last night? She was incredible. The sad thing is that she is getting hate mail and public harrassment for trying to get the Rupublican party to return to its true values.

TGM...do you have a link?  I didn't see it.  I really like Meagan, I hope she pursues public office herself someday.

I saw the interview and it was great. I give Meagan alot of credit and I think she should hang out with us here. It is refreshing to know that Republicans can be "hip" on social issues, too! Here is a link to Maddow's blog and you can click at the bottom of the page to see the interview.

Thanks Kelly:)
