Elton John Performed at Limbaugh's Wedding?

By Kelly Thomas - Posted on 07 June 2010

Link from CNN. This is almost as good as Elton John performing with Eminem! I guess money talks because it seems like it would take a good chunk to get Elton John in the same room with Rush Limbaugh, let alone providing hours of entertainment at his wedding. Wow--marriage # 4 for Rush. Will this finally be the real thing? I guess he met his 33 year old bride as his last marriage was ending 6 years ago. Mr. Family Values, indeed! Got any pictures for us, Misty. It would be fun to see a photo of Rush and Elton!

Elton John and Rush Limbaugh may seem like an unlikely pair to be found at the same event, but perhaps a wedding is as good a place as any to put politics aside.

As Rush Limbaugh, an outspoken conservative commentator, tied the knot for the fourth time in Palm Beach on Saturday, Elton John was on hand to help celebrate the occasion with a performance.

Although there are reports that Sir Elton was paid $1 million for the appearance, a representative for the singer would only confirm that he did indeed perform at Limbaugh’s wedding.

The 59-year-old Limbaugh married Kathryn Rogers, 33, whom he met six years ago during his third divorce, according to People.

I didn't even know he was serious with another woman. I don't want to be one of those people but it has to be the money. I mean i'm sure outside of politics Rush is a nice enough person if you never knew he was in the radio business but man he just seems so repulsive because of his actions. It's his life though and I don't know him personally.
I am kind of disappointed in Elton John. All those "limp wrist" comments from Rush and pretending to talk like a gay person...agreeing to sing for him almost dignifies his homo-phobic, anti-gay rhetoric. Then again, I was shocked by Elton John's appearance with Eminem years back. Have you read some of his anti-gay lyrics or comments? Maybe Elton John is trying to bridge a gap with such ignorant people, saying: "See, we're not so bad. We're actually normal just like you!"  Or maybe he is just being a typical rock star grabbing publicity and big money at any "moral" cost!
I think it's the first one. He strikes me as someone who wants to be the bigger person in these situations. Then again, who knows.

I assume that this was posted on his site in reference to his participation in the Limbaugh wedding. I suppose.

A statement from Elton John

By the Editor/

"I have always believed that music inhabits a world set apart from politics, religious differences or prejudice of any kind.

"Throughout my career I have made a point of playing concerts in challenging places, such as the USSR and Northern Ireland in the 1970s, Israel in the 1990s and very recently Morocco. Every concert was an enjoyable event for us all and, as I found in Morocco just this last Wednesday, it is always a great experience playing to a new audience in a new country, getting a wonderful warm reception, and hearing the 30,000-strong audience singing along to lyrics that are not in their native tongue.

"Music is, and always will be, a universal language, free from boundaries. It can and does inspire unity and builds bridges between people, and I will continue to play concerts anywhere in the world where I can encourage that unity."

Very classy.

Limbaugh, 59, married Kathryn Rogers, 33, Saturday in Palm Beach, Fla., with about 400 guests in attendance but no media, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday.

Among the dozens of giant bouquets of white roses, the famous faces lit by the glow of hundreds of candles included those of: Karl Rove; former presidential hopeful Fred Thompson; former Kansas City Royals slugger George Brett; Sean Hannity; Rudy Giuliani; New England Patriots owner Bob Kraft; James Carville and his wife, GOP analyst Mary Matalin; and golfer Tom Watson, among others. The newlyweds reportedly flew off on Limbaugh's private jet to honeymoon in Mexico, Africa and a number of other locations.

I'm sorry, but that is just disgusting.  He was 26 years old when she was born!!!

I really really don't want to be one of those people, but man this screams so badly of "It's all about the money".

That's not fair obviously but my mind won't let me let it go.

There's just no accounting for some people's standards.  Ick.  Shivers.

I don't know what her motivation is for marrying Rush Limbaugh, but I'm not sure we should be critical of the age difference.

My sister married a man who was 20 years older than her.  They have 6 kids and have been together since 1974 and have a very happy marriage.

I work at a university so obviously most of the students here are between the ages of 17 and 23.  You're saying that if I, a 50-yr old man, met a young 18-yr old female student and we married, you wouldn't have a problem with that?  I'm sorry.  The age difference is just too great and is just plain WRONG!

"The age difference is just too great and is just plain WRONG!"

In most cases I would agree it isn't wise and an 18 year old in today's society is probably more immature than one would have been in the past , but as Mickey and Sylvia sang in 1956, "Love Is Strange."

If two adults truly fall in love, I don't think it is our place to say that their love is "plain WRONG" based solely on an age difference.

If two adults truly fall in love, I don't think it is our place to say that their love is "plain WRONG" based solely on THEIR GENDER.

LOL.  I couldn't resist.

Oh, Central TX Mom-sneaky, sly and a slam dunk! I was just about to put out a thread on a new study about lesbian parenting. Brandon and many of the "save trasitional marriage" types might be surprised.

I knew someone would bring up "same sex" love when I posted last night.  Central TX Mom wins the prize.

I'll reply in the other thread about the study.

Still think it would be funny if Central TX Mom's daughter fell in love with Jonathan Krohn, the conservative kid.  LOL!

Now they need to do a study on liberal and conservative marriage unions and what those do to kids! My guess is it ain't good or maybe they just produce moderate children and they grow up well-adjusted like us : ) We'll need to interview Carville and Madilin to get their take!
Speaking of Carville and Matalin...They attended the wedding of Rush and trophy wife #4.  I had to laugh at the mental image of Carville in a room full of far right wingnuts. ;-D

I was thinking the same thing...

I suppose Mary will have to return the favor at Chelsea's wedding?~

Probably so..altho I imagine they must be used to such situations?  How they do it, I have no idea.  They say their rule is to never discuss politics at home.  I couldn't do that either. lol

PS Good to see someone on here is still speaking to me. ROFL

I agree that we can't judge based on age difference alone. Some such unions are sincere and last a long time. If we separate "big age gap" marriages for the rich and famous, however, it appears the odds are against them. Look at Larry King! Hey, maybe she really loves him for his heart (he does have one, right?) Seriously, I have heard over the years that many of Rush's close friends and relatives see him as a big teddy bear, very kind and generous. Which may be true. But why not show that side to the world and change the tone of his radio program? Sure, at first, I could see him using it for ratings and money, but the guy is so rich. Isn't it time for him to actually contribute to society in a positive way? I won't hold my breath. And the "outside" kindness falls flat to me if he encourages such hatred, judgement of others and division during a time when we, as Americans, need unity more than ever. But, hey, he is a business man, and may do as he wishes and marry gorgeous super young women simply because he CAN. The modern test of whether this woman really loves him, unfortunately, probably comes down to a little legal document called a pre-nuptual aggreement. Did she sign one? Even if she did, she could still enjoy his riches, private jet, etc. DURING a few years of marraige, right? Well, take a look at their photo above and compare it to this one. Who do you think stands a better chance?

I don't have any issue with the issue is with them man..can I just say eeeewwwww!  He makes my skin crawl!

I had read about Elton John singing at his wedding and I was really disappointed to hear that.  Maybe I am wrong to feel that way, but I don't buy his statement at all.  It left me feeling that he would play any gig for the right $:(

I guess the old saying, "not for a million dollars" doesn't apply in the real world?!
