Happy 30th Birthday!

By Chance - Posted on 05 June 2010

I was born on June 5th, 1980 at 2:35am. So, today, I'm celebrating 30 years of life.

30!
I've been told by many that this is not a big deal for most, but just a few years ago I didn't know that I would make it to this day.  It was just 2 1/2 years ago I was at the bottom spiral of a major depression disorder and each day varied between wishing for my death, planning ways my death could happen, and actually trying to figure if I was hurting enough to just give up and be the cause my death...

Fortunately, I never reached that point.  Though, 30 remained a fantasy and I often thought that I couldn't live long enough to see this day.  Then, at my darkest point, I got help and more and more it seemed that I would actually see this day.  Now, while not fully well, but doing so much better I can look forward and see, hope, and plan for a long full life ahead.

Right now, I can say without a doubt, that my 30's are going to be so much better than my 20's and that makes me very happy.

Happy 30th birthday! You have so much to celebrate-you have come so far! Some of us take birthdays for granted and then we hear inspirational stories like yours and cherish them greatly. I think you can really use your own experiences to reach out to others in similar situations and tell them not to give up. Your strength is amazing. I am pushing 40 and feel that life gets better with every passing year. I am not one of those "lie about my age" people. I wear the years like a badge of honor. Enjoy your big day!  Here's a little gift from Izzy:

Strength and Courage
Author: Sylvia Kelly
It takes strength to be certain,
It takes courage to have doubts.

It takes strength to fit in,
It takes courage to stand out.

It takes strength to share a friend's pain,
It takes courage to feel your own pain.

It takes strength to hide your own pain,
It takes courage to show it and deal with it.

It takes strength to stand guard,
It takes courage to let down your guard.

It takes strength to conquer,
It takes courage to surrender.

It takes strength to endure abuse,
It takes courage to stop it.

It takes strength to stand alone,
It takes courage to lean on a friend.

It takes strength to love,
It takes courage to be loved.

It takes strength to survive,
It takes courage to live.

What a beautiful, powerful poem.  Reading it, I realize I've very strong on strenght, not so much of courage.  I need to work on that.  Thank you Izzy!

That is a really nice poem, Izzy!  Thank you!

I think I might copy that and print it off.

Happy Birthday Chance!  You are an amazing young man.  If you were 30 years older I'd snag you. lol

Seriously, as one who has battled depression myself, I applaud not only your accomplishment in climbing out of that black hole, but also you willingness to share the journey here.  You never know who may read this, feeling hopeless and helpless, and find the courage they need in your words.  You have so much to offer the world.  I'm glad you're here to do it.

Much love and hugs on your milestone birthday.

Rowr!  Sadly, if you were 30 years younger, you wouldn't have your lovely daughters.  ;-))

OR my five wonderful grandsons.  I wouldn't trade my girls or my grands for youth even if I could.  I've had a full and eventful life...filled with twists and turns.  Contentment is about the journey, not the destination.  ;-)
Happy Birthday Chance, and as others have said, we appreciate your courage in discussing your problems with depression.  I also appreciated your discussing the problems you've had with healthcare coverage in past that have shown the necessity for reform in this area.

Thanks to all for the wonderful Birthday Wishes.  It is very much appreciated!  It's been a wonderful day.

A little late, but Happy  Belated Birthday Chance!!

I've missed all of you...been busy and addicted to FB/Farmville, lol...but it keeps me from thinking about crap I don't want to think about. I was getting really annoyed with all the negativity on the news. and such. Well I just stopped by to check some post out and had to create a thread about something I am wondering about.

Hope you day was wonderful!!! And I am happy to see you are getting there, Chance :)

Thanks, Hope.  Good to see you back, even if just for a short while.

I'm also addicted to Farmville, so you should friend me on FB.  I'm one of Suzi's friends.  I've tried other FB games, but none of them are as entertaining as Farmville.

Yeah, I click on your "name here" and found your first name and then I found it on Suzi's list, lol.....

Sorry, for the late reply. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHANCE!

I'm 5 years away. I turn 25 on the 28th.

I'm still a young punk whippersnapper.

Thanks, SG!  You're the age of most of my co-workers.  So, youthful and the world hasn't had a chance to turn you into a grump.

Now, get off my lawn!!!

Chance:

Thank you for sharing your story here, and congratulations for seeking help and fighting for life.

It truly is a very happy birthday (sorry I'm late with it though).

Thanks, Kim.  I've got no problem with Belated Birthday Wishes.  My dad and aunt both forgot my birthday this year.  They thought it was June 6th.  I forgave my aunt, but my dad has some groveling to do since he was actually there.

Thanks, Golf!  So, you were celebrating the big 2-0, just one month before I was born.  Pretty cool!
