Happy New Year RFO!!

By Kelly Thomas - Posted on 31 December 2009

Just wishing you all a Happy New Year. May 2010 bring you peace, love, and happiness! Some fun quotes for you...

Mark Twain
New Year's is a harmless annual institution, of no particular use to anybody save as a scapegoat for promiscuous drunks, and friendly calls and humbug resolutions.

Bill Vaughan
Youth is when you're allowed to stay up late on New Year's Eve. Middle age is when you're forced to.

P. J. O'Rourke
The proper behavior all through the holiday season is to be drunk. This drunkenness culminates on New Year's Eve, when you get so drunk you kiss the person you're married to.

Jay Leno
Now there are more overweight people in America than average-weight people. So overweight people are now average… which means, you have met your New Year's resolution.

James Agate
New Year's Resolution: To tolerate fools more gladly, provided this does not encourage them to take up more of my time.

Eric Zorn
Making resolutions is a cleansing ritual of self assessment and repentance that demands personal honesty and, ultimately, reinforces humility. Breaking them is part of the cycle.

Bill Vaughan
An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.

Charles Lamb
New Year's Day is every man's birthday.

Oprah Winfrey
Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right.

Mark Twain
New Year's Day… now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual.

Judith Crist
Happiness is too many things these days for anyone to wish it on anyone lightly. So let's just wish each other a bile-less New Year and leave it at that.

Many people look forward to the New Year for a new start on old habits.

Joey Adams
May all your troubles last as long as your New Year's resolutions!

Anais Nin
I made no resolutions for the New Year. The habit of making plans, of criticizing, sanctioning and molding my life, is too much of a daily event for me.

Oscar Wilde
Good resolutions are simply checks that men draw on a bank where they have no account.

Robert Paul
I'm a little bit older, a little bit wiser, a little bit rounder, but still none the wiser.

A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one Year and out the other.

Leonard Bernstein
From New Year's on the outlook brightens; good humor lost in a mood of failure returns. I resolve to stop complaining.

G. K. Chesterton
The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective. Unless a man starts on the strange assumption that he has never existed before, it is quite certain that he will never exist afterwards. Unless a man be born again, he shall by no means enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.

Happy New Year! Great quotes!  Love them all.

I'll add to the sentiments a Happy Bowl Game fest for all who indulge.  My UH Cougars just lost the Armed Forces Bowl (sigh).  For Suzi (and my hubby): Geaux Tigers!  LSU plays Penn State tomorrow in the Capital One Bowl.  The Alamo Bowl is Saturday: it should be interesting b/c Texas Tech's coach just got canned for allegedly locking a player suffering from a concussion in a shed (yikes).

Of course, the biggie is the BCS Championship Bowl: #2 Texas Longhorns vs. #1 Alabama.  Hook 'em Horns!

Topic Change:  For those who can't get enough of those end-of-year and end-of-decade "best" and "worst" lists, here's a website that lists a bunch of those lists.  Have fun.

Happy New Year! Good riddance to 2009 and to the aughts or the naughts or whatever, and here's to a prosperous New Year and New Decade to everyone!

Happy New Year everyone!!!  Hellloooooo 2010!!

For those who had a rough 2009, I pray that 2010 brings better, brighter days for you!!

 Happy New Year everyone!

I know we're, still, a couple of hours before North America celebrates, but Happy Twenty-Ten to all you lovely RFOers.

I hope that Twenty-Ten will be a much better year for everyone, overall.

I hope that everyone has plans for fun.  It's really cold around here, so I'm not going out.  I just had a nice Chinese dinner and a wonderful glass of Riesling.  Now, I'm going to watch the new Family Guy movie Something, Something, Something, Darkside.

I switched around all the channels for the countdown, saw Dick Clark and it's weird to see him like that, but it's great to see him all together and I hope he is coping as well as you could with a stroke.

But I have to say some funny things about the Fox News one that are just in gest. First of all it was called "All American New Year" so yeah the most American broadcast of an American only holiday? I think they almost showed two gay guys kissing but went away fast but it looked like two guys with their faces really close. Then the hosts who are in Time square started singing 'New York, New York' and that might upset the small town 'NY is liberal' folks. ( :

I hate to focus on Fox News for that but those things were impossible not to share because of their own behavior since the campaign season. I just love talking about the ridiculousness of it too.

About Fox... That's the funniest post I read all year.

Happy Twenty-Ten to everyone in the Central Time Zone.

There were some dark times in the past three years where I didn't think I'd make it to this year, so this is a BFD to me.

Goodbye and Good Riddance to 2009.

Happy New Year!  Hoo-ray!

That's from last year, no? I could have sworn that's also in the old RFO photo archive.

EDIT: Nevermind. I see it was from the overall year. I thought it was suppose to be from New Years last night. (:

Nope-it's from the whole year. I'm relying on Misty for any Dec.31, 2009 photos of the Obama's ringing in the new year in Hawaii : )

Nature sure opened the New Year with a bang. Here in Ludington we already got at least a foot of snowfall and it's continuing to come down hard, as it did all day yesterday, as it's doing today, and will probably do tomorrow. We had our own ball drop in the downtown part of the city but because the weather had turned so bad I decided not to go.

Happy 2010 everybody!
