Don't Kill Launched

By Suzi LeVeaux - Posted on 04 November 2009

I stumbled across this while looking around the net, and find Dick Armey hard at work once again.  He and his organization, FreedomWorks, have launched a website called Don't Kill to fight health care reform.

They have teamed up with Michelle Bachman on Thursday, in her call for dissenters to visit their Congressmen on that day, for a rally to "Kill the bill".  Here is the schedule posted on the newly launched website:

  1. Wednesday, November 4th at 12PM  to 5PM - We are asking patriots to go to outside their local congressman’s office and start a vigil reading the bill.   Patriots can find their local congressman’s office by going to
  2. We want people to update location and progress using Twitter hashtag #killbill. Please send us your videos and pictures.   We will be doing some live broadcasting of events.  You can broadcast your own event by using and
  3. Thursday, November 5th at 9AM – Volunteers continue reading the bill at local offices.
  4. Thursday, November 5th at 12:00PM – Nationwide Rally at all the offices and at the Capitol Steps in Washington DC with Rep Michelle Bachman & other congressman when we will all simultaneous chant of “Kill the Bill” followed by the burial of the 1900 page bill.
  5. Thursday, November 5th at 12:30PM - Everyone at DC & Country will sing “At 12:30 pm EST, at the exact same time around the country, in Washington, D.C. and at your local Congressional offices, join together and sing “God Bless America.”

Phil Russo and Jason Hoyt from the ‘Tea Party Patriots LIVE’ radio show will be doing interviews and broadcasting video from the steps of the U.S. Capitol at Michele Bachmann’s on Thursday, November 5th at Noon EST.

First we had Armey and Freedomworks as the moving force behind the Tea Parties, then as organizers of the 9/12 Project.  Just recently, he was behind Hoffman's rise out of nowhere in the NY 23 Congressional race.  Armey and his organization have operated nimbly, organizing, seeding and supporting protests against policies of the Obama administration and the Democratic Congress while taking care not to be seen as controlling the dissent from on high.  To the politically unaware, all of this can appear to be grassroots dissent.

When Mark McKinnon, a political strategist and former consultant to George W. Bush, was asked how he would explain Armey’s resurgence on the national stage, he replied: “Armey and FreedomWorks have been the invisible hand behind much of the recent conservative activism around the country. Armey understands that while the Republican brand has been damaged, most people in this country still lean center-right. And he taps into the innate fear most Americans have about government activism and overreach.”

Dick Armey is a powerful man, possibly a dangerous one, with a definite agenda.

#killbill, huh? Why do I suddenly get the feeling one of those protesters will be carrying a samurai sword?

It's sad that we've reached a point where 'government service' is a dirty word... If we're the greatest country on earth, maybe we can have the greatest government.

Or a gun straped to his waist! or slung over his shoulder! I think every one has a right to protest, but these crazy people like Bachman an Armey scare me.
I was going for this Quentin Tarantino reference, actually.

If Pelosi or whomever with the gavel has them and Bachmann tossed for violating decorum, I wouldn't be surprised at all. Nor would I be surprised if Bachmann turns that into a sob story.

I got your "Kill Bill" reference, and had thought of that same thing as I read the original article.  But my thoughts quickly skittered to what jupitor means.  In a political climate where guns have a way of showing up in the hands of the radical right at protests, using the word "kill" almost seems like some sort of sick, subliminal message.  Maybe I am oversensitive.....
The use of the word "Patriots" is sickening. It's another "us vs them" and I guess anyone in favor of reform isn't (or can't be) a patriot. Disgusting propaganda.
I've been chastized for this, but I call them "hatriots".

I remember Suzi. ( :

I'm not really calling the people themselves this but calling out Armey and his group for using the word in a manipulative way with their movement. Not that I disagree with your term for quite a few people (not all, but a lot).

Armey is a hatriot for sure....he knowingly plays on people's fears, stirs them up, for his own purposes.

Actually, I agree and don't call them all hatriots ...some are merely following their beliefs....but that doesn't make them patriots either.  The ones who justify themselves and their self-righteousness with hateful signs and words, those are the "hatriots", along with the ones that manipulate them.

One has to give the right wing credit for energy and tenacity: the endless campaign.  Election results, if not to our liking, are place holders.

I hope the Obama WH and friendly political operatives are doing some opposition research or something to discredit this circus (maybe getting some videos of what are sure to be the countless examples of horrendous behavior by our "patriot" friends).

Oh, silly me.  The WH can't do that.  Joe "GFY, Dems" Lieberman and Olympia "Possible Chance of" Snowe might take offense and withhold support.

"God Bless America...but don't give poor Americans health care!" Just makes no sense. These uneducated people are being used and fed fear by the corporate world of health insurance lobbyists. How sadly un-American and unpatriotic of Dick Armey and the like!
The stoopit gets stoopitter!
