Missing Gulf War pilot's remains found after almost two decades

By TinSoldier - Posted on 02 August 2009

I don't know who all here has heard of Captain Scott Speicher, the first US casualty of Operation Desert Storm back in 1991. I remember hearing a bit about him here and there, and especially the increased interest in finding him when we invaded Iraq in 2003 -- it was believed that he had been captured and was either being held or had been killed after the fact.

Well, his remains have been found.

At least his family can find some peace, as sad as this is.  It appears at this time that Captain Speicher died in the crash.  I hope that proves to be true, and that he did not suffer, then or by being tortured.

Thank you for your dedication to your country Captain, and may you rest in eternal peace.

Hopefully this will bring some sort of closure to the family, not that it makes the loss easier. Rest in peace, Captain Speicher. We have been blessed by your service.
