TPM on some GOP Senators who should probably use their brains more
Here's another revelation: John McCain is on to something. There was a point in my life when I started palling around with a pretty ugly crowd. I gotta be honest. These guys were serious deadbeats. They were lowlifes, they were unrepentant no-good punks.
That's right, I've been a member of the United States Senate.
—Senator Barack Obama
(Here's some background music to rip off Chris Matthews:)
In addition to Senator Inhofe's (R-OK) "Eh, I don't need to see her, I'm voting against her anyway" blow-off of Sotomayor, there's this rather cold cancellation by Senator Corker (R-TN): "She was over ten minutes late." Uh, I'm sure the meeting would've been short and bitter anyway, but she is nursing an injury, Senator. At least Vitter had the class to offer her an ice pack and a cushion.
Then there's Senator Cornyn (R-TX): I'm sure he's willing to pull out all the stops, including Justice Alito, to keep the Democrats from getting that coveted 60th seat, but really, at this point it's more symbolic than a definitive domination of the Senate (what with the Blue Dogs and Specter not necessarily being reliable votes). Even so, it's probably best to answer questions about Mr. Coleman with a simple "no comment".

It's sad that we've reached a point where 'government service' is a dirty word... If we're the greatest country on earth, maybe we can have the greatest government.
Lewis Black
From HuffPo:
hmmm-no wonder Latino and non-white support for the GOP is dropping like a ton of bricks. Aren't they aware of this perception? Don't they care? Can't they even pretend ot be nice to Sotomayor?

Someone named Steve had a great comment on the GOP support dropping like a ton of bricks among minorities article:
"The legacy of the Southern strategy: Republican irrelevance."
This was the Nixon strategy for election, and it apparently worked (at least it appeared so at the time). But the chickens have come home to roost.
