Shepherd Smith proves that there is humanity at Fox
I found this on one of my local newspaper's progressive blogs. Shepherd Smith went off script and called out the hate that is being spewed in a segment regarding the shooting at the Holocaust Museum. As an example, he used a hate email received at Fox News which he read on the air.
First, I commend Smith for showing a great deal of class and fortitude.
It's my understanding that now some Fox viewers are demanding he be fired. The hate that is being stirred up is deeply concerning. I don't lose sleep or anything; I just realize that a light has brought out the worst in our society.

Yup, I just posted this on another thread. The scary thing is-he is probably getting death threats from the very people who are saying he went too far! I think we should all write in to Fox or to Smith himself to express our support. Maybe someone will start a petition (I'll bet there is already one to fire the poor guy!) Just as the "torture" issues we must examine, it's like some people would rather wear the blinders on this. They can't take a serious, internal look at what is truly happening and be honest about it. Well, Shepherd Smith is willing to, but look at his consequences!
Is this not proof of the crazies out there? It's from the linked article below and they actually still argue about Obama's birth certificate while bashing Shep Smith for an alleged road rage type incident.
"Where's the Birth Certificate?" billboard near the Santa Ana Freeway in Los Angeles
*** Conservatives vs. FOX? By the way, don’t miss that some conservatives (like WorldNetDaily) are now going after FOX’s Shepard Smith, after he criticized the emails he’s receiving from conservatives, including those who believe that Obama doesn’t have a birth certificate and isn’t a natural-born citizen -- an opinion that yesterday’s gunman at the Holocaust Museum shared.

It's sad that we've reached a point where 'government service' is a dirty word... If we're the greatest country on earth, maybe we can have the greatest government.

I should also point out this article talking about the rise of angry but horribly misinformed people and the media personalities that encourage them implicitly. I do wish that Michael Rowe had come up with examples outside of the far Right, but they're the topic du jour for the Left, so...

If you want to be one of the proud few to send a note of encouragement, I believe this is the website :

Thanks. i just sent this email:
As a proud member of Republicans for Obama (who stopped watching Fox News after the Rev. Wright garbage and Ayers terrorist stuff) I found a ray of light at Fox News: Shepherd Smith. With his stance on torture and now his honesty with the Birth Certificate nonsense/hateful emails he reads daily, I am very impressed. I applaud his integrity and spine. I will consider returning to Fox-for his show only-and will expand that if you can have a more open-minded dialogue and denounce the hate talk that inspires violence. Some Republicans just want an open, respectful dialogue of facts. Is that too much to ask? Keep up the great work, Shepherd Smith! -Kelly Thomas
I just sent this message to Fox Report/Shep:
THANK YOU so much for being a voice a reason on a network that has gotten way too carried away. Healthy opposition is one thing but there is far to much encouragement of the conspiracies over Obama. It's not good to feed the fear like that. It really encourages the wackos who don't go to various sources for their news. I am a moderate who discusses politics on a daily basis with displaced Republicans who voted for Obama (they even made a website Republicansforobama.org) because they are tired of the fear and misinformation used to fuel loyalty to the hard right. There has to be a limit to this sickening encouragement of mistrust and fear. It is always good to question leaders and the government but not in the way it's being done by some who seek to profit over lies and generalities.
There has to be a level of responsibility for what is being said in order to keep their ratings and provoking people to not trust anyone but them for this information. This homeland security report was not an attack on conservatives but rather the nutjobs who have committed the kind of crimes we are seeing now from the shooting yesterday, the 3 police officers killed in Pittsburgh, and the murder of Dr. Tiller. Time to stop ignoring this and playing politics, especially playing politics with people's emotions and fears because they trust these people like Beck, Hannity, O'Reilly and Limbaugh too much...
Here is what I sent in to Fixed News:
This is a note to Shep Smith in regard to his sanity amid all the insanity that is Fox News: I long ago stopped watching Fox News when it became clear that it was nothing more than a mouthpiece for Bush, neocons, and the right wingnuts.
However, Shep Smith’s criticism - of the lies and innuendoes surrounding things like Obama’s birth certificate, torture and the innumerable other empty criticisms of the Obama initiatives – has come to my attention through non-Fox sources.
I wish to send him my congratulations on having not only common sense but the spine to voice it. I can only hope that his spine extends to being able to stand up to the inevitable condemnation by Rush Limbaugh.
Shep is the only reporter of whom I am aware on Fox that regularly speaks his conscience and presents the news rather than regurgitating talking points. He should be rewarded rather than chastised. If he is finally forced out of his position, he should certainly have the credentials to find employment in a reputable news organization.
Hang in there, Shep.
"It's my understanding that now some Fox viewers are demanding he be fired."
Hell, SMITH should insist that he be fired.
The Limbaugh response is in, attacking Smith and throwing the Nazi crazies into the Anti-Rush/Pro-Obama crowd in one fell swoop:
LIMBAUGH: As for Shepard Smith whining and moaning and complaining about e-mails, nobody needs to tell me about hateful e-mails, for crying out loud. I get the most vile, sick e-mails attacking me as a “Jew lover” that you can imagine. I don’t read ‘em. I hear about them. They’re in a public account, of course, as you know — and I’m a conservative. Who do you think these hate e-mails from coming from? Where are they coming from? Yeah, I get people, “You Jew lover, you Jew lover!” because I am faithful to Israel and a number of other things.
You've got to hand it to the conniving old... he sure can spin.
Oh no..a Jew Lover....Wow, who knew that was bad. I can see the e-mails now.
"Rush you are such a Jew lover. Omg you need to die in a pit."
Now let's compare it to the e-mail Shepard got.
....yeah there is no contest here. Rush's e-mail is OBVIOUSLY worse (sarcasm).
