Obama's Germany Buchenwald Speech

By Misty - Posted on 05 June 2009

during a visit to the former Buchenwald Nazi concentration camp

These speeches today really moved me.

President Barack Obama is kissed by survivor Elie Weisel after his speech.

We must never forget what happened in "these places." We must connect to those who suffered here and died here. Their suffering and their deaths have made these places sacred.

Misty, thank you for taking the time to put this together, well done and yes- I was equally as moved and our president is representing us to the world better than I could have dreamed.

I echo sun's words, Misty.  Thank you for this.  Today was another overwhelming time for me, as I see just how differently our President is presenting the face of America.  It makes me so proud...of him and of my country.

This is truly the change I voted for.  Thank you Mr. President, for not disappointing, and for validating my faith in your vision.

Absolutely moving and beautiful. As usual, thanks for sharing, Misty. The extremists can't possible criticize this, can they? Has anyone read Wiesel's book Night? I think I'll put it on my summer reading list. When we studied the Holocaust with our 8th graders last year, we showed the Oprah show which featured Elie Wiesel and I don't think I ever saw the students so quiet and reflective afterwards.

It was required reading when I was in school in the early 1970s. So I can imagine it's touched a lot of children over the years.

 I will never forget it.

It was required reading for me too and I graduated in '04...

You are all welcome. I was raised around veterans. My late uncle was at the Battle of the Budge in 1944. I pause and reflect during times like this.

As you know tomorrow is D-Day. Obama will give a speech. I'm looking forward to it as well.

Obama in the eastern German city of Dresden June 5th.

Toured the Church of Our Lady... a Lutheran church in Dresden.

That's Angela Merkel, right? I love the look on her face in #6.

Yes that's her.
