Who Do You Think Is More Annoying Sen. Nelson (D.-Neb.) Now Or Paul Krugman Three Months Ago?
I'm curious to hear what people think about this one! Personally, Nelson is ticking me off more with his latest comments on healthcare today! But then again, Krugman's relentless rants on how "Obama is wrong," were irksome as well. I wish Nelson would emulate Krugman and just keep quiet! Every time he says, "We want to prevent the erosion of the private market" or "We don't want the government to take away the private healthcare that millions of Americans enjoy," (Enjoy? Seriously? He used THAT word?!) my blood pressure rises =). The following article is from the Huffington Post:

On the other, I have to wonder what goes on in the brains of those who think that a public option necessitates the destruction of the insurance industry. Must be one of those wind-up monkey dolls with cymbals.
----It's sad that we've reached a point where 'government service' is a dirty word... If we're the greatest country on earth, maybe we can have the greatest government.

I hear you, NoMcSame. I just got a very disturbing letter from my doctor's health care organization.
It seems in less than 30 days I will no long be able to use my doctor. The doctor I've had for over 15 years. Probably more than 20 years, if I think real hard about it.
Why? Because our insurance company is dropping them from their In Network list. Which means I will have to pay triple if not more to see him, completely out of pocket.
Keep in mind, I'm a cancer survivor, what do you think the odds are of me getting a "better" insurance company or "better" benefits if I "shop around"?
And where the F*** would I "shop around" anyway?! I don't have an employer (I'm a consultant, my own 'boss,' one of the ubiquitous 'self-employed') so my husband's company is where we depend on insurance.
::sigh:: Yea, I sure do "enjoy" my "private" healthcare that I have a "choice" about. ::sigh::
That's a bummer, TC! I feel for you.
I had to change doctors a couple of years ago, because my doctor dropped the BC/BS network because their reimbursements to network providers was not to his liking.
It happens both ways.
Charp,
I am so sorry and angry for you. I too am self-employed and forgoing surgery until I can get ahead. Hah! I will pray for you and all of us at the mercy of politicians that hem and haw and stall at our expense........

Yeah, the idea of now having to go to another doctor, to replace someone who has been my health care partner for so many years. . . He knows me inside and out (literally).
I know I can't change my health care plan, so I have to change my doctor. It's really pretty terrifying for me.
In the past 20 or so years, I've had different insurance plans, and I've been very fortunate that he's been In Network for all of them. This news, coming out of the blue, and now giving me such a short lead time to find a new doctor I can trust. . .okay, starting to hyperventilate now . . .
Changing a doctor that you've had for so long, especially as a cancer survivor sounds like really bad news.
Just a thought though, would your current doctor be able/willing to recommend someone who the insurance company still accepts? Surely your doctor believes your health comes first and having to stop checkups is not a good way to insure your health.
Cant answer the who is more annoying thing. I would opt for Krugman, given his recent remarks about Reagan. But I dont care, its like asking me whats more annoying, nails on a chalk board, or Fran Drescher!
In regards to the health care we "enjoy". I cannot complain one bit. I have an ankle problem. I call my Dr on friday to tell him I will be in town on Monday. He sees me half an hour after the office closes because thats the soonest I could get there. He orders Xrays at the hospital, because his tech was gone for the day, and I get the Xrays, that night!!!!! I get a call Tuesday morning, from my Dr who already got the Xrays back (Hospital is on the same street as my Dr) My Dr tells me that I will need surgery, and central scheduling will be calling me. Central Scheduling has no need to call me, I call them, because I know someone. My surgery is scheduled for the following morning at 6am. By wednesday night, 5 days after my initial call, I went from calling my Dr, to recovering from surgery. I truly "enjoy" my private healthcare! (The someone I know, my mother in law, is head of central scheduling at the hospital, so things do move a little faster, and a little smoother, than normal. But really, only a little. She cant MAKE anything happen, she can only make it happen better)
I do enjoy healthcare in this country. And thank God! I pay for my healthcare. And I do this when I could get VA benefits for free. But I would rather pay, than use the current government run system thats available. I just hope that option remains! Otherwise we will all know what I have already learned about Govt run healthcare!

Time will tell RF....and I will expect a public acknowledgment of how right I was, right here for all RFOers to see.
Now go to bed before you get in real trouble. lol
NoMc, I feel as you do. Somethings are just too important to be totally privatized. Insurance co. should non-porift like they used to be. I was just conversing w/ a conservative friend of mine on FB and he is very much like Limbaugh in his beliefs. He thinks the education system needs to be privatized. HUH? so they have control over what the children are learning? I thought they were about choice, and we alrady have that choice, if you want your kid in a private school you can pay for it if you have the money. Go figure.
Insurance co. should non-porift like they used to be
BCBS is 'non-profit.'
That's hard to parse. Anthem and WellPoint merged in 2004. 'Anthem' as a company no longer exists but the name does and is used for marketing purposes in some states. Have I lost you yet? At the time of the merger the then Anthem company converted from non-profit to profit.
WellPoint is an independent licensecee of BCBS and UniCare. Ticker symbol is WLP.
I don't see how? Not one person has shown how costs will be abated - only prices. Cost controls do not work.
Are they reducing medical salaries? Are they increasing the # of providers? Are they reducing the cost of developing drugs or the high tech diagnostics machines? Exactly how are they reducing costs other than perhaps streamlining administration costs. I really am curious -not trying to be facetious.
Hard choice....they both annoy the hell out of me.
I will not throw the first punch but I wil certainly throw the last.....President Barack Obama.
