So now the republics in congress are blocking an interior nominee out of revenge for Secretary Salazar cancelling oil and gas leases in national parks.  Don't they know Bush waited til the end of his administration because he really didn't want to be known as the President who turned our national parks into a national boondoggle?

Why in the world would the GOP want to be seen as blocking a nomination for oil issues? Have they seen their polls numbers? Do they see there are only about 20% of Americans identifying as Republican? Do they see they are only helping the "Party of No" "Party of Big Oil" labels to stick? Ugh!

Lep, I think there's more to the story than this, for example, Reid voted for continuing the filibuster and three democratic senators were not present for the vote, Kennedy, Kerry and Mikulski (adding these 3 plus Reid gets the job done). Snowe and Kyl also sided with the democrats. Yeah, we stopped the vote, but I think the dems let it happen intentionally.

It's my understanding that the number one person who blocked the vote was Senator Bennett of Utah.  He is under pressure from the far right wing of being challenged in the Republican primary.  another one of those "Utah liberal Republicans".

True, he did block the vote, but since Reid also blocked the vote, when he has the body count in place they will reconsider and the filibuster will end, that's my guess. Reid didn't have the votes today.  ^^^^^^^

Looks like they are aiming to block Dawn Johnsten too (office of Legal Council) Wow-the fun of being the minority party; "Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, we can block your nominees!" At some point, will they see this will only hurt them further?
