Meghan McCain vs. Ann Coulter?

By Kelly Thomas - Posted on 09 March 2009

I'm not a big fan of Meghan McCain but she is right on in her views about Ann Coulter as cited in this article by CNN. I think you'll all get a chuckle as Meghan tells it like it is! You go girl!

In a new blog post for the Daily Beast as Ann Coulter and HBO host Bill Maher are kicking off a week-long debate tour today in New York, McCain calls President Obama “the hippest politician around” and says being a Republican is “about as edgy as Donny Osmond.”

And she blasts Coulter for helping to “perpetuate negative stereotypes” about Republican women. “I straight up don’t understand this woman or her popularity,” says McCain. “I find her offensive, radical, insulting, and confusing all at the same time.”

She concedes that Coulter seems to be followed by a “cult that cannot be denied,” and was a popular headliner at the recent Conservative Political Action Conference, but adds that “when your competition is a teenager who has a dream about the Republican Party and Stephen Baldwin, it’s not really saying that much.”

It’s not Coulter’s politics, says McCain — it’s her personality. “Maybe her popularity stems from the fact that watching her is sometimes like watching a train wreck,” she says.

Nah, Coulter's popularity comes from the visceral, sadistic joy of abusing and attacking those she and her readers dislike-- many right-wing talk show listeners appear to be indoctrinated to hate those who don't share their views on a primal level. Surely Meghan remembers the catcalls of "Terrorist! Kill him!" during the rallies last year?

I'm hoping that this one becomes a good smackdown.  Meghan McCain doesn't have a political career to worry about, so she may have more guts than all of the rest of them put together.  Go Meghan!

Meghan McCain doesn't have a political career to worry about, so she may have more guts than all of the rest of them put together.

Yeah, but do you think daddy will send her to one of her 7 posh bedrooms without supper? Something tells me he won't be happy...

I dunno... John McCain never seemed particularly favorable to Coulter, and I suspect that - behind his ultraconservative facade - is a realist struggling to get out.  My guess is that he doesn't have much love for Coulter and will at least sneak some food to Meghan in whichever of the 7 posh bedrooms she is sent to.
Just goes to show how unintelligent Meghan is - resorting to crash talking.
I wouldn't call it "crash (trash?) talking" if what she's saying is true; moreover, she doesn't seem to be presenting her opinions as fact-- but then, I just skimmed the article. Her larger point is that if it took her 2 years of essentially stumping with her father to throw her hat in with the Republicans, it would be nigh-impossible for today's instant-fix generation to even give the GOP a chance. Sure, she's light on facts, but a blog post is essentially an op-ed most of the time.

I agree with you magus.  Plus, she is willing to call out the hate mongers on the far right.  Not bad for a young woman who has been thrust into the limelight.
And it's not like Meghan called Ann a name or anything.  She called out Ann's behavior.
I think intelligent young people are the voice of the future of the Republican party.  I'm glad this one had the guts to speak out.

Megan McCain has figured out that Coulter is a man and  should not be the face of the Republican party...Joe the Plumber said Steele is pimping the GOP, and is most likey hoping Steele quits...

What's a girl to do.

So little time....so little to figure all this out.....lol

I will not throw the first punch but I wil certainly throw the last.....President Barack Obama.

So Bill Maher and Ann Coulter will be debating? Will they get this on video? Misty, keep your eyes open. ( :

Also, Meghan is not only right but she is also good looking. <That's important right? ( :

By the way the comments in the DailyBeast article are crazy. If you feel like having your head spin, take a look....

They had a bulls-eye tattooed on them by the far-right since Buckley's son posted that he would vote for Obama there.

I don't think Daddy will have any problems with Megan's words.  Remember, during the primary season, before McCain won the nomination and everyone thought Clinton was a given, Coulter said she would vote for Clinton if McCain won the nomination.

I'm sure this incident contributes in someway to Megans dislike of Coulter....along with 1000 other legitimate reasons.

The GOP is at a crossroads. I love the Republican Party, but if it turns out I am somehow not conservative enough to please its leaders, it makes me wonder—am I then not worthy of even being a member? - Meghan

Meghan McCain's problem is that she really isn't a Republican. She only registered as a Republican in Arizona this past year during her father's run for the presidency. She should go back to being an Independent.

I guess it all depends on how you define Republican. She certainly isn't a Republican by today's right wing standards.  Neither am I.  But we hold out hope that the party will return to sanity.  I only hope I live long enough....;-)

I can' figure out why she would want to stoop down to Coulter's level relying on personal attacks to get her point across. I don't think Coulter is just going to stand by and not defend herself.

This should be very interesting. More  please.

Very few people are able to stoop as low as Coulter's level.  The ones that can...Rush, Hannity, etc, are on her side.  lol

I cannot wait for Ann's response...she is very good at dissing people.

I will not throw the first punch but I wil certainly throw the last.....President Barack Obama.

Or swooping in, ripping them to shreds, and feasting on the remains.  I'm, still, convinced that Ann is some type of inhuman creature.

Watch the skies Meghan, Watch the skies!

Oh No! poor Meghan.
Chance, I think that is what a shrike is!
I'll tell you right now, the Democrats are loving this, as I'm sure the minority parties are as well. The best way to fracture the GOP is to get them to form a circular firing squad, which is exactly what is happening. The Democrats should know-- the same thing happened to them in 1968.

To quote Austin Powers re: Anne Coulter....

 "SHE'S A MAN, BABY!!! SHE'S A MAN!!!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I like the way Megan started her quote with "I straight up...".  It's funny that a rich white girl has more urban appeal than Michael Steele in his glorious natural blackness.  As for Ann Coulter, I hate that guy.  Everything Megan said about him was true.

Vienna, you are a blogger after my own heart.....could not have said better myself....i will go to my grave knowing that Ann is or used to be a man....straight up!!!

I will not throw the first punch but I wil certainly throw the last.....President Barack Obama.

I abhor Ann Coulter as much as the next person, but I am puzzled by this preoccupation with her "manliness."  To accuse her of being a male is an insult to males.  Better to point out where she is wrong on the facts.  Better yet to ignore her altogether.

Exactly. Well-said, db.

"For those who plan with audacity and execute with vigor,
progress is the magnificent by product."

I don't get it either, db.  This has been one of those "urban myths" that has circulated forever with no indication of truth.  She is what she is...and I would have to delete myself if I said exactly what that is....lol
It is just because of her Adam's apple.  That is how talk about it all began.
Yea, I know...lol.   She's just so scarecrow thin and has such a long neck that it shows.  I know a couple of women like that.  Luckily, they are much nicer than Coulter!!!!
I don't think anyone seriously thinks she is a man. It just shows that the woman is so irrelevant that none of the BS she spews is even worth a serious rebuttal, so no one tries to give one. I think the only reason Bill Maher accepted the debate was for the laughs, and to show her stupidity. Kinda like when Jon Stewart when on Crossfire.
Not being a Bill Maher fan at all, I can miss that whole dog and pony show without a qualm! ;-)
I love Bill Maher!  I just can't believe that he ever hangs out with Ann Coulter.
A lot of people agree with you, CTM.  I'm just not one of them. ;-)

All I know is, he can be pretty funny.

Prepare to be shocked...

I'm a big fan of Maher too. I'll give some of you a moment to recover from that surprise....

;-)

OMG!!!  I am soooooooo shocked!  ;-D

I know, Suzi!! Usually I like to hold back on shocking news like that out of respect for possible heart conditions, but I felt I like I needed to tell the truth. I'll try to avoid dropping bombshells like that in the future.

(I think I killed the joke)

( :

I'm with you, Suzi.  I don't care for Bill Maher at all.

He is too disdainful of all Christians.  Even the regular, everyday ones.

That is exactly the reason I don't care for him.  He doesn't have to agree at all.  But his open distain offends me.  But that's just me....
Well he thinks ALL religion is silly, not just Christianity. I think if everyone makes fun of religions like Scientology, it's fair game to make fun of other religions like Christianity.

Oh, I'm not talking about simply making fun of Christianity and Christians.  Which I would be fine with considering some of the things that have been done in the name of Christ.  For example, Lewis Black has a bit in his act where he makes fun of Christians and says that we've been misinterpreting the book of "his people".  It's actually pretty funny.

Bill Maher, on the other hand, absolutely despises people of all religions and especially the Christian faith.  I seen him make some pretty vile comments on the air and in his many programs.  I understand if you don't believe the things that I do and I even respect that, but don't mock and ridicule me for the beliefs that I hold and do it in a mean-spirited way.

dbmcgraw:  You know what, you're right, I'm sorry to all the men out there. Men are beautiful, WoMAnn Coulter is NOT!  I do try to ignore her.  Damn you Dr. Phil!  BTW dbmcgraw, are you related to him?
No relation.  His name is McGraw (Irish), mine is McGaw (Scottish).  But I do have a brother named Phil.
I've like M. McCain since watching her on the view.  I believe she could be a real voice to the party, b/c I think she's a voice of the inheritors who'll soon enough be wanting things and are frankly for the time, are having their voices drowned out by those wishing that the early 80s would come back, the Gipper, Alex P. Keaton, shoulder pads and all..

Meghan McCain was on Rachael Maddow acting like a total Valley Girl.

Like OMG! I'm so totally a moderate Republican! My daddy ran for President ... and it would have been like so totally awesome if he had won.

But now, like, yeah, I'm going after that icky Ann Coulter. Yeah, so, I'll be like the most prominent moderate Republican.

 Yup ... like totally.

She's a pretty face for their party than most of them, but I'm sure the basement boys over at FReeperville are attacking her right now. I refuse to look.

Ooops I looked . . .

Comment from Free Republic:

If Ann responds, this poor girl will feel like she has been pulled through a knothole backwards.

Here is the HuffPo post embedding the interview. She seemed to do an okay job, saying in essence that CPAC and all the ideas it embodied floated some people's boats, but it does nothing to bring new blood to the GOP.

And... that's actually how affluent people in the Southwest talk, to the best of my knowledge. Valley accent is a lot more pronounced.
