I do and I dont support Obama, dealing with my worries
Well this is my first post here, Ive lurked for quite some time but I thougjht today Id post. I think my thoughts can most easily be expressed by creating a list of things I like and things I dont and by putting them down in print maybe one of you will have the answer.
Things I support about Obama
1. Nationalized healthcare, we need it to compete our industrys are being crushed by the cost and our familys cant afford it.
2. A less big business friendly environment, we need corporations to come home and quit building over seas.
3. A change in our energy plan and real work on moving to alternatives, I prefer Nuke power as it is the cheapest by far but we need to do something other than what we are.
4. A partial removal of the race card from the black mans hands, this might be a different take than you have heard but with a black man in the white house can America be racist? If "The Man" is black doesnt that mean the gravy train of excuses is over?
5. Change, yes its a bit nebulous but I like chaos, I like trying new things. If it blows up in our faces then we have all the proof we need to never vote for a Dem again but this one time it will be interesting.
Things I worry about or dont like.
1. Lack of drive to protect the country from the Islamic threat
2. Going back to the Clinton style of global co-operations in which we are the only ones who co-operate and our enemys do what they want
3. The second amendmant, Liberals would love for us all to be at their mercy our guns keep liberals honest.
4. Abortion, I find it odd that Liberals are harder on the unborn than they are on terrorists.
5. General liberal sillyness, they have such an odd need to be appeasers to the wierdest people.
So there ya have it, Im not a whole hearted Obama supporter yet but I think he might make some changes we need.

bigiron,
Thank you for braving the waters. I'll be the first to admit, there are several issues within the democratic platform that I don't necessarily agree with. You mentioned abortion. I am pro-life, but I also see the oppositions’ side. And, Rowe v. Wade is not going anywhere. To do that would cause all sort of horrible side effects.Like you, I am not a one issue voter. This year’s election is such a crucial turning point for the nation; I believe we have to look big picture. And in my opinion, there is only one candidate that has an agenda that will work for the middle-class, education reform, health-care reform, economic stability, our return to a global standing as a leader---not a villain, and to bring our troops home. I do differ on the point of race. I see on a daily basis who far behind some ethnic groups still are in terms of educational standing and test scores, socio-economic development, percentage of advanced degree holders and business leaders. Sometimes we forget that “separate-but-equal” standards were still being followed in the south only 50-60 years ago. And yes, I am a middle-aged white guy. With that said, I think on many other issues you mentioned, I agree with your reasoning “for” Obama.Again, I appreciate your thoughts, and I hope you post again soon.BigIron,
Many of us share your concerns. The main reason I have been a voting Republican for the last 34 years is to try to stem the tide of the liberal socialist elitist leaning candidates. I am fully aware that Senator Obama has been consider one of the most liberal Senators we have. I have lived in the Peoples Republic of California all my life and I know liberal Senators ie: Feinstein and Boxer. HOWEVER, I am sick and tired of the direction the GOP is going. It has been hijacked by the religious bible thumping zealots and big business. Don't get me wrong here, I am a Christian and I like money as much as the next guy. I work hard to get it and I want to keep as much of it as I can. I think I am starting to ramble. That being said, My gut tells me that Obama is the guy we need right now. I don't trust McCain, and the mear thought of Hillary in the white house sends chills of terror up my spine and I have to fight off waves of nausea. So who does that leave?
Barack Obama, a man who impresses me with the ability to reach across party lines to achieve a goal. A man who speaks from the heart and means what he says. Is he pro-islamic? No Is he anti-second amendment? I know that he is not a friend of the NRA however, he as a constitutional scholar has stated that he belives that people have the right to bear arms. To what level he will go to either alter or maintain it, I can't say.
Remember, that there are checks and balances written in the constitution and if Obama gets out of line, hopefully we can do what we did to Clinton and take the House and Senate back. For now, my vote is for Barack.
