Bachmann, Meet Hayes

By audio - Posted on 21 October 2008

From Politico:

Warming up a crowd in North Carolina on Saturday, Republican Rep. Robin Hayes offered the diagnosis that “liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God.”

I'm a left-leaning populist life-long Republican and I have a "Christians for Obama" sticker on my car.  If you knew my life over the last couple years, and the prescense not just words in a book experience of having Jesus Christ in my life, one thing's for sure, I do not hate God, he is the one "person" who has been there and has done everything he can to help me.  This is why we so dislike the religious and neocon right, they don't know the truth and they don't care.

I fully agree, and it saddens me that Christians (or so the claim) are acting this way, and on top of that are completely distorting scripture in order to justify and fuel their prejudices.  What's worse is that they're so good at it that the world believes that Christianity is an exculsive, unintelligent, and radical faith.

I love the Lord.  A vote in one direction or another isn't going to take that away from me.

You have excellent judgment Obraxton!
Amen!  lephead and obraxton.

Rep. Robin Hayes sounds like a good Sadducee to me.  There still time for God to change his heart, though, if someone would just intercede in prayer to the Father on his behalf.  It's a shame, though, that some people are lost and just don't even know it.

Interesting. Hayes denies the Resurrection?

That, and the fact that they hung around the Temple a lot (and were annihilated by the Romans) is all I remember of the Sadducees.

I listened intently to the sermon last Sunday where the topic was "render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar..."  The pastor stated that our Caesar is our Constitution, our three branches of government.  Our Christian commitment is to vote, and also to investigate and learn the truth about our political candidates.  Right after the sermon we sang the hymn "Christ by Heavenly Hosts Adored."  I was moved by the last verse;

Let our rulers ever be
Men that love and honor Thee;
Let the powers by Thee ordained
Be in righteousness maintained.
In the people's hearts increase
Love of piety and peace.
Thus united, we shall stand
One wide, free, and happy land.

My mother and I both thought the pastor was making a statement about seeking the truth and not following the vicious distortions and lies being spread around during this political season.

It sounds like you have a good pastor.  I hope people understand, I don't think people like Hayes and Palin are bad Christians, but when they incite people to be afraid and engage in bad behavior, they need to think about their soul, and how they're portraying Christianity to the world.  That was why General Powell's endorsement was so inspiring, they wave the flag and hyperpatriotism, but who remembers the iraqi's and Islamic people who have laid down THEIR lives defending American soldiers.  The bomb throwing at Obama (who is one of OUR christian brothers) trying to deceive people into thinking he's an islamic terrorist dishonors them.

How dare people like Hayes presume to know what others believe based !!!   If he was any sort of "christian," he would know he shouldn't be judging others.   He would also know the Bible says to treat one another as you want to be treated and to love your fellow man.  I'm not seeing much of that in McPalin's campaign.  So if their "Christian base" believes the lies and filth that McPalin are spreading, I feel sorry for them, for they are being led to the slaughter.

We need a clip of this. Hayes' talking head is denying he ever said this. Bless you, Think Progress. Here's an audio clip.

If you scroll to the bottom of the linked article there is an audio clip.
