"Recovering" right-wing author trying to help.

By iwrotesham - Posted on 04 October 2008

I am not trying to usurp what's being done here, and I plan to post here as time permits. However, in the interm I'm also trying to do what I can via my own blog (www.shamblog.com), which covers political issues through a more psychological/philosophical lens. For many years in the mid-90s I was a "designated pinch-hitter" columnist for the Wall Street Journal, contributing dozens of columns, most of them from a conservative perspective. I've also written extensively for the likes of NRO, American Enterprise, American Spectator, etc. And in my heart, I still basically believe that conservatism--in an ideal world--is "the way." But the stakes are too high this year for partisanship; I simply find that I cannot believe any of what John McCain says...and I find Palin to be a genuine embarrassment.

Welcome and thanks for the information.

Welcome, Steve. We appreciate your input.

Here's a direct link to Steve's blog: http://www.shambook.blogspot.com/

Thanks, folks. It's Steve, btw. No "n" at the end.

I should emphasize that my blog is entirely non-profit (in fact, it's non-income-generating in any way--no advertising, etc.--which is a source of some consternation for my wife).

Fixed typo - sorry.

Hi Steve. I loved your blog article, My Real Quibble With Sarah Palin. The money quote: and I certainly don't understand what realness, per se, has to do with anyone's suitability for the second-highest elective office in the land..

This certainly mystifies me also. When did the main qualification for heading a nuclear superpower become 'a real person I can relate to'? It's as if we're hiring a Walmart Greeter and are incapable of drawing a line from Sarah Palin 'real person' to Sarah Palin CIC with nuclear codes. The same woman who was borderline incoherent sitting with Katie Couric was at the debate, except she was in a format that allowed her to blow off the questions while delivering talking points as Perky Spice. Sit her down on Meet The Press and watch a verbal trainwreck.

Welcome Steve.

Welcome, Steve. I think you will like our site. We have lively discourse.

Welcome, Steve! We have some great discussions here. Quackers, you said:

Sit her down on Meet The Press and watch a verbal trainwreck.

That's not going to happen anytime soon - guaranteed!!

Ya think? Dang right it won't. :>)
