McCain divided over $85B AIG bailout

First paragraph spells it out nicely "Republican presidential candidate John McCain, struggling to strike the right note amid roiling financial markets and a Wall Street restructuring, on Wednesday softened his opposition to a bailout of mega-insurer AIG that he had flatly ruled out a day earlier."

I can practically hear him thinking "What's the right answer?  What will get me the most votes?  I'm losing the Palin bounce, what do I say?"  It would be sad if it wasn't so important.  My McCain, from 2000, would state what he believed, defend it and stick to it.  Not shift with the tide of public opinion from one day to the next.  The change in him is depressing.
