"An American Prayer"

By Suzi LeVeaux - Posted on 22 August 2008

Dave Stewart and Bono wrote this song as an anthem for change. (From the article) Stewart said: "the phrase, "When you get to the top of the mountain, remember me" seemed to take on a whole new resonance, given the inspirational candidacy of Barack Obama."

That phrase, as you probably know, is from the speech given by MLK on the night before he was assassinated.  Obama's acceptance speech is on the 45th anniversary of the famous "I Have a Dream" speech.  Read the article, then watch and LISTEN to the video.  It starts off slow, but as it builds, you will find yourself caught up in it, and in the promise of what America was meant to be.  We can make that promise happen....

YES WE CAN!

OK, that really got to me!  I'm all teared up now.

Thanks for sharing that, Suzi!

Take Chances, Make Mistakes, Get Messy!

I know what you mean, Chance.  Teared up, and filled with the desire and determination to help make this happen!  I hope this song catches on and becomes connected with the campaign.  I would love to see it aired during the convention.

That would be cool, Suzi

You should e-mail the YouTube link to Barack's Campaign HQ and tell them about it.  They might not know about it yet.

Take Chances, Make Mistakes, Get Messy!

I imagine they know, as Bono has an "in" with the campaign, from what I understand.

Wow.  That was powerful.

As I too sat listening/watching that video with tears in my eyes... it suddenly hit me that that is what my passion is all about in this election.

It's more like a prayer being played out, a "prayer in motion."

While I pray quietly for the course of our country to be changed, being a part of this forum and being passionate about our candidate is for me, more than just saying a prayer in my head or heart.  It gives my prayers hands and feet so that I can actually HELP to make a change that our country so desperately needs today more than ever.

We are all living out America's Prayer for our country.  We love our country and our fellow citizens too much to sit back and watch it be further divided and  torn apart.

Lovely. Another one to add to queue with "Yes We Can" and "We are the Ones".

Like anybody, I would like to live a long life - long-gev-it-y has its place.

I guess  that's what BHO had in mind when he picked the hoary Joe Biden as his running mate.

Remind me Jaba... how old is McCain???

It is fascinating that Obama picked Biden who has 35 years in the Senate versus McCain's 26. That makes him #6 in longest serving Senators still there today.

Once again jaba, you shot yourself in the foot.  lol  At the end of an eight year Obama presidency, Biden will finally reach the age McCain is now.

Add to that the fact that he is vibrant, energetic and doesn't speak in a monotone speaks volumes as to the comparison.  Any questions hon? ;-)

That's a great song...we need to make it go viral....

I agree....You younger ones will have to do that.  At 61, I don't even have a FaceBook page! ;-)

So, for the ones who know how to do this stuff.....Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to help it go viral.  Post it on MySpace, FaceBook, YouTube, your personal blogs, anyplace that will help spread it around!

On your mark, get set, go..........

On that note Mom/Suzi... do you know if RFO has any kind of graphic link thingie (that those of us who happen to have personal blogs) could put on our blogs??  I would love to put one on mine!  When people visit my site, if they were so inclined, they could simply click the little icon picture thingie and be brought straight here!!!

Not being real savvy in such things, I defer to Barabara, John or Golf.  Do we have such a thing?
