Real Americans

The media obsession with Sarah Palin has left me reflecting on her dangerous philosophy and beliefs and desire to divide, rather than unite, us. I began to think back to her references about "Real Americans" and how illogical her whole argument is. Palin's "Real America" appears to be much different than Barack Obama's, according to this article from Five Thirty Eight.

When her supporters defend her, they say things like "I support her because I love the Constitution" (as if most Americans don't?) or "She is a true Patriot" (as if people on the far-left can't fit the same category?)

I wish I could take credit for the below insight, but I actually found this on a blogger response after this MSNBC First Read article and felt compelled to share it, as it sums up the reality pretty well.

1) REAL AMERICANS believe that life is a sacred gift from God not to be thrown away  (referencing anti-abortion)

That would be Christians, the Pope, the Vatican, and Islamic extemists. TRUE AMERICANS found this country on the complete divorce of church and state

2) REAL AMERICANS believe you should be judged on your character, not the color of your skin (reference to opposing affirmative action)

TRUE AMERICANS believe clear historical crimes and ills have created disadvantage economically and educationally and may have been instituted by the state needs to be redressed so that children of those held back that helped build this country can attain a measure of balance and true equality. In short, only an ostrich with head in sand would deny your past is a contibuting part of your present.

3) REAL AMERICANS believe homosexuality is an abomination that should not be tolerated (referencing GLADD) This is not part of our constitution but is a definitely shared by Islamic extremists and terrorists.

TRUE AMERICANS believe all Americans are equal and have the liberty to pursue their lives and hapinness and not be fettered or denied that ability by anyone including the majority. If so, the majority would have continued to vote not to end slavery even while any human realized it as morally wrong both here and worldwide.

4) REAL AMERICANS believe in the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. (implying Liberals don't)

TRUE AMERICANS believe in that right but also believe that it must be exercised in a manner that does not infringe on law enforcement ability granted by the consitution or threaten or harm fellow citizens also constitutional rights.

5) REAL AMERICANS believe you work for what you get, not have the other taxpayers give it to you (opposed to welfare)

TRUE AMERICANS believe the government is of the people, by the people, and for the people and create the environment and foundation upon which growth derives. This has always been the case for years under Reagan, Clinton, Obama, and others before.

Only a UNREAL AMERICAN will imply that other TRUE AMERICANS are not real simply because they do not share that worldview. Perhaps those REAL AMERICANS lack true patriotism and are selfish or insecure when it comes to building up the country rather than dividing us even as they wear their flags on their sleeves to validate their love of country.

You just reminded me of a current Onion article:

Area Man Passionate Defender of What He Imagines Constitution To Be

I sometimes get the feeling that there are even members of Congress who have never read the Constitution, but are still convinced they know what it says or stands for.

That's funny!  Kelly's

That's funny!  Kelly's blog reminded me of the recent episode of 30 Rock, where Alec Baldwin wanted to find a new star for the show who was a "Real American" and he took Tina Fey on a roadtrip to search for him/her.  It was hilarious, and clearly a big swipe at that mentality.

LOL, I saw that. It was

LOL, I saw that. It was pretty great and Alec was pretty much making fun of himself and calling others what im sure some conservatives call him. Here's a link to the full episode. It was kind of in episode 3 of the season also when they travel to Stone Mountain Georgia to find the cast member or real America.

The free viewing of the episode (it aired Oct 16) ends in 10 hours so perfect timing. Well it ends on HULU, i'm pretty sure it's always there at the NBC website.

From MSNBC. Anyone totally

From MSNBC. Anyone totally disgusted by Palin capitalizing on and politicizing this national tradegy by visiting Fort Hood on her book tour. And she is proudly advocating profiling at the same time!

I hope the families of our brave soliders at Ft. Hood, including those who happen to be Muslim, protest her appearance. How dare she take a national tragedy and try to turn it into a political gain? And she calls herself a Patriot? Leaders should be pulling the nation together in unity. All this talk of "us vs. them" is utterly irresponsible and dangerous. Does she realize there are American Muslims fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan TODAY putting their lives on the line for HER and us and she wants them profiled? Disgusting. The military should boycott Sarah Palin's book tour and get vocal about her divisive mission.

Update from MSNBC: "The Army wants Palin's appearance at Fort Bragg on Monday to be much quieter," the Raleigh News & Observer reports. "The base has asked Palin not to make a speech at a public book-signing at the base exchange; she also will not write personal notes, pose for photographs or sign anything besides her new memoir, 'Going Rogue: An American Life.' Fort Bragg also wanted to bar reporters from the event. Garrison Commander Col. Stephen J. Sicinski determined that by keeping out the media, the base would prevent Palin, a Republican and possible candidate in 2012, from having a platform from which to attack President Barack Obama, a Democrat. ... But late Thursday, after news outlets complained to the Pentagon, the base changed course, saying a limited number of reporters could cover the event if they shared their material with those kept out."

By now, Palin's

By now, Palin's shamelessness is part of her schtick.  Whether it was invoking the troops in her disagreement with Letterman or pouting (to this day) over the fact that she could not speak on the night that McCain gave his concession speech, Palin pretty much equates America's fortunes with those of her own.  She certainly isn't the first person to do this ("What's good for General Motors is good for the USA"), but she is up there with the best of them.

Compared to her Obama is an audacity lightweight.   Best of luck to the army P.R. officers in keeping this from being a total fiasco.  I am looking forward to the post- event references.

"Yes, My fellow Americans, when I went to Fort Hood and met with the troops and their families,  I knew America was the bestest place in all the wordly universe with real Americans."

This is an excellent blog,

This is an excellent blog, Izzy!!  I am still astounded at the us vs them mentality that seems to be growing out there!

Today, I received one of those viral, fwd fwd emails, that informed me, with a link to Snopes testifying to it's truth, that *gasp* DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano has hired two Muslims.  The email is titled "Wolves Herding Sheep".   Of course, following the links given in the Snopes article, these are fine upstanding American men, whose only crime is not being "real" Americans by virtue of being Muslim, but they are definitely "true" Americans.  It's sickening.

Don't we have a Muslim in

Don't we have a Muslim in Congress?

Hey Suzi,  Off topic...I

Hey Suzi,

Off topic...I wanted to ask you if you thought that perhaps Ft. Hood was part of the events that Nancy had been referring to all this time?  Early in her prediction she kept saying Nov. 5th, which is unbelievable, it being the exact day of that tragedy!  She is now pointing to the 29th/30th for the international situation.

Nancy Reagan had something

Nancy Reagan had something predicted from that website relating to the shooting?

No no... Nancy's Blog;

No no...

Nancy's Blog; she is a political astrologer that I have shared on here several times.

I will attach a link for you if you are interested.

http://starlightnews.com/wordpress/

She had been talking about a time of deep sorrow for the country on that date for many months.  She is seeing something else for Nov. 29/30th.  She said that starting now through Aug 2010 will be the most difficult period of Obama's administration.

No, I knew and remembered

No, I knew and remembered the astrology website months ago. I just never got around to reading it. (:

So, yeah I figured the date was out of there and she said something, but this was the first time I can remember someone saying something happened related to what was in her astrology blog. I went and found that thread and read a little bit of that now until Aug 2010 prediction (if that's the right word). That could be very strange and hectic, because if anything does happen to make it his toughest time, it's right in the heat of election season and it will be greatly used as leverage.

Oh wow!!  I hadn't put the

Oh wow!!  I hadn't put the dates together, liz.  That's amazing.  I'm going to check out the site and will message you on FB.

McConnell just kept telling

McConnell just kept telling all of us what Americans want and don't want.  I felt like slapping him silly!  I guess to him, Americans are the tea partiers...the only "real Americans".  Grrrrrr

When and where? See

When and where? See something on CSPAN or did he give a wonderful comment to the press the past 2 days or so? ( :

Just saying that in general, because it's true? lol

I have to post a daily show video from thurday. Maybe later tonight or tomorrow where Jon was joking about things not to be thankful for and some how it led to a segment of two Republican senaters ranting about the trial in New York to a pretty non-existant audience in congress. They showed a lot of empty chairs. A lot of really really stupid fear mongering about bringing KSM to New York for a terrorist trial. I mean depressing stuff that makes you wonder how these jackasses got elected.

His latest was on CNN, as

His latest was on CNN, as Minority Leader, just before the vote.  "The American People are against this, The American People don't want this, The American People have made their voices heard, The American People...blah blah blah".  No allowances for even ONE American Person that might think otherwise ...The American People, in his mind, all agree with him!!

They know America better

They know America better than most of us, no? Most Americans didn't want Obama as president? ( :

I guess it was more convincing than this?

"Half of America and most of the right is against this, neocons don't want this, tea partiers have made their voices heard"

LOL....It wasn't convincing

LOL....It wasn't convincing at all....it was frustrating to listen to and not be able to talk back! ;-)

The fool was actually trying to convince one Democrat to vote with the Republicans...even reminded them that they would have to go home and face their constituents...you know, the American People that don't want this.  It really pissed me off, and I have to admit, made me a bit nervous...I could just see Lieberman changing his mind.

Every time that man speaks I feel like I had about 100 of those shakes. Not sure if he, Palin, or Lieberman give me more heart burn (might be a 3 way tie...)
