So the Texas Governor's race has begun. The bullet points for those not following:
- Our current Gov, Rick Perry, made us un-proud at a Tea Bag Party where he didn't disagree with someone who shouted out that Texas should secede. He continued with the momentum and dug himself into a nasty hole of secession talk.
- In the next governor election, he will be contested by current Senator Kay Bailey Huthchison, a moderate Republican who I will vote for, as well as have yard-signs to support.
- Texas politics -- esp. this race -- will no doubt lead to hours of entertainment. Here's Round 1: Hutchison supporters want an apology from Perry's strategist's regarding comments about moderates in the party.
An excerpt from the Dallas Morning News which sums it all up --
"Carney said the Republican Party should welcome new voters. But, he added, "that doesn't mean you take your principles and throw them out the door and become a whorehouse and let anybody in who wants to come in, regardless."
With American Idol coming to a close tonight, the vacuum could be filled by watching Texas politcs run its course.

If they continue to lose elections, it will be harder and harder for them to keep up the appearance that the problem isn't systemic, and that the primary cause wasn't self-inflicted.

The Democrats are throwing their power around a little bit in Texas - good for them. For someone to come to a polling place with a voter ID card, but be forced to file only a provisional ballot is ridiculous.

States like Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama have always performed poorly in areas like education and healthcare. But what happened to California?

J.W. Lown, the mayor of San Angelo in West Texas, recently narrated a video touting his town as a great place to live. Then he left to pursue another passion.
Mr. Lown resigned this week -- less than a month after winning a fourth two-year term in a landslide -- saying he was leaving to carry on a relationship with a Mexican man who had been living illegally in the U.S.
Mr. Lown, 32 years old, sent the city manager a text message just hours before he was due to be sworn into office Tuesday that said he wouldn't be at the ceremony. He'd moved to Mexico, leaving behind a short letter of resignation on his desk.
