Obama wins 1 electoral vote in Nebraska

By aileron - Posted on 07 November 2008

538 is reporting that he won the electoral vote in Nebraska mostly composed of Omaha.  With NC called for Obama, that brings his total electoral votes to 365.

Can you say landslide AND mandate? ;-)
Yes we can!
;-) and YES WE DID!!

And with almost 8,000,000 more votes than McCain. That is truely a remarkable accomplishment. Nebraska is begining to come around and with Warren Buffet and Chuck Hagel's common sense perhaps it will prevail. Colorado has rejected the sick ways of our old party and there are cracks in Kansas.

When this rotten group that bought control removed the soul of the party the falling away began.

Wait - I thought this was called yesterday... was that just a projection?  Did we celebrate early??
Maybe I missed the post yesterday, but I think that was a projection and it's official today.
Go Omaha!!!  Anybody remember Marlin Perkins?

The same Marlin Perkins from Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom?  You betcha! ;)

As a kid I used to watch it in prime time every Sunday night!  :)

That made my day when I heard it was official. I wore out a lot of shoe leather and cell phone minutes trying to turn that city blue.

Way to go David.  You rock! ;-)
Nice. I know the feeling... I burned through cell phone minutes for Colorado and Ohio. :)
And I burned through my shoe leather and cel phone minutes for North Carolina! Wow, we go a pretty good team here.

I haven't seen this on any local news outlets.  However, Let me just say this...

WOO-HOO!  This is so awesome.  Nebraska has never done this!  This EV is from my Congressional District.  My vote was part of this.  WOW!

I think I need to go lie down...  I'm so giddy that I might just pass out.

Yes Omaha Can!  Yes Omaha Did!

I'm delighted that the area in which I was born (Offutt AFB) went for Obama.

That is excellent!

Is this the first time this has ever happened? It is amazing to take ONE point from a state like that. It shows the reach and determination of the entire Obama volunteer team as a whole. Amazing.
If I remember correctly, Nebraska is one of only two states that apportion their EVs.  All of the other states are "winner take all".

We apportion our EVs by congressional district, with the overall winner taking the two senate EVs. Despite this, this is the first election where it has worked out where we have split EVs between the parties, and only the second time in the past century where an EV has gone to a Democrat.

what the heck is going on with Missouri, not that it matters much at this point but what is it that they can report results 3-days after the vote.

Ummmm, counting isn't one of their strong points? ;-)

Here is the info off the Sec of State website :

U.S. President And Vice President    Precincts Reporting 3533 of 3533
John McCain, Sarah Palin REP 1,442,673  49.4%
Barack Obama, Joe Biden DEM 1,436,814  49.2%
Bob Barr, Wayne A. Root LIB 11,355  .4%
Chuck Baldwin, Darrell Castle CST 8,181  .3%
Ralph Nader, Matt Gonzalez IND 17,769  .6%
Cynthia McKinney, Rosa Clemente WI 958  .0%
Total Votes   2,917,750

Maybe there are lots of provisional ballots left or something.

Just to clarify for myself and others...  Those are the statewide results from Missouri and not the results from Nebraska's 2nd District.

I had to pause when I saw those figures for a moment.  Nebraska's total population is 1.7 Million people.  Then, I realized you were talking about Missouri, which I've heard was already declared for McCain.

Yes America Can!  Yes America Did!

"Nebraska's total population is 1.7 Million people. "

But our cattle population is 6.55 million. :-)
